A few months ago I was asked to do a book review for this sweet little book:

I read it right when I received it and totally fell in love with the stories and life lessons that Phillip Done has had during his career as a third grade teacher.
On the back flap of his book Done writes:
I am a teacher.
I take slivers out of fingers and bad sports out of steal the bacon.
I know the magic word.
I plan lessons while shaving, showering, driving, eating, and sleeping.
I wear four-leaf clovers and dandelions in my shirt pocket that have just been picked with love at recess.
I correct pencil grips and spelling mistakes and bad manners.
I pray for snow days.
I hope April Fool’s day is on a Saturday.
I answer to both “Mom” and “Dad”.
I hate glitter.
I leave “shuger” and “vilets” misspelled on valentines.
I call on children whose hands are not raised.
I know that “colonel” is a really hard word to read, and so is “doubt.”
I know when a child does not understand.
I know when a child needs help finding a friend.
I am a teacher.
Done offers token wisdom and pokes fun at how imperfect we all really are. I would feel great knowing my kids were being taught by such a caring teacher!
The sad fact is, teachers don’t get as much credit, or compensation that they truly deserve.
I know what it’s like being home with my twins a few hours a day, I cant imagine trying to teach and control 32 8-year-olds.
This man deserves a medal!
I will be giving his book away to one lucky reader. All you have to do is leave a comment on this post. Contest ends on May 3nd 8PM EST. It would be a great gift for that teacher in your life- we all have one!
